About us

Nurturing independent learners since 1979

Southside Montessori School has been part of the Georges River community for over 45 years. We offer an authentic, uninterrupted Montessori education from birth through to age 12, one of the few schools in Sydney where children can follow the complete Montessori pathway without changing schools.

Our story

Southside Montessori School was established in 1979, making it one of Sydney’s oldest and most experienced Montessori schools. For more than 45 years, families from Riverwood and across Sydney’s south-west have trusted Southside Montessori to educate their children.

We are a non-denominational, independent, co-educational school, and a not-for-profit governed by an elected board of parents. No individual profits from Southside Montessori, and every dollar is reinvested back into the school.

Our mission

To provide an educational experience underpinned by the philosophies of Montessori, which aims to ignite intellectual independence, with a commitment to the service of others and to a shared sense of responsibility for a future that fosters flourishing communities.

Our point of difference

Our point of difference is a fully integrated educational experience that nurtures a child’s holistic development. Offering an authentic Montessori prepared environment and pedagogical approach, we accommodate learners on their educational journey from birth through to age 12.

Our campus

Our campus at 35 Lilian Road sits at the edge of the Georges River, bordered by native bushland and wildlife. It is not a typical school setting. Children here spend time outside every day in a natural environment that most Sydney schools can only dream of. That connection to country and to the natural world is woven through everything we do.
